Roghaiyeh Safari did her PhD at Dokuz Eylul University in Turkey investigating genetics of bipolar disorder. As a postdoctoral research fellow in the lab of Dr Ralph Meuwissen at the Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center in Turkey, she investigated and developed mouse models for small cell lung cancer as preclinical tools to study drug resistance. Her postdoc in the lab of Dr Luc Willems at the University of Liege centred around Bovine Leukema virus (BLV) and how BLV miRNAs and antisense transcripts influence cell proliferation, apoptosis and carcinogenesis. Rugi joined the Maertens lab in February to investigate the role of PP2A B56 isoforms in HTLV-1 infection.
